Career Core Program: Medical Office/Billing
This twelve-week program is designed to develop skills and an understanding of the medical office and medical billing department. The students will gain marketable skills in medical office procedures, medical terminology, medical billing, billing software applications and medical ethics. Career Choices offers an instructor-led program to provide applicable skills in this area of expertise. This program provides students with marketable skills to seek entry level employment in insurance certification, authorization, data entry, receptionist, entry billing and posting positions.
Career Choices does offer the student, who wishes to expand their knowledge in medical coding, the opportunity to continue their studies to the Medical Coding courses. Collectively, these courses increase the student’s marketability for employment in a position within a medical billing office or entry level coding position.
Prerequisites: 30 wpm; 70% or greater achievement on “Assessment Exam”; Basic knowledge of MS Word
Cost: $3,600 (Basic and Advanced evening coding courses separately priced)
All prices include all textbooks and course materials.
Class Time: 6 hours/day, 5 days per week; Instructor led courses scheduled during week
Maximum Program hours: 329 hours__Program Graduation Requirements:
This total hours includes Basic and Advanced Coding evening courses, although pricing is not Inclusive of evening classes.

Students enrolled in Career Cores: Medical Office/Billing program must successfully have completed Medical Terminology in order to enroll in Medical Coding Basic and Advanced classes. Individuals with one year of medical office or one year medical billing experience may receive credit for Medical Office courses and qualify to enroll in evening coding classes only.
Medical Terminology
25 hours
Students will gain basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical terms to prepare for a career in the healthcare field. This is an instructor-led course that encompasses many applications for learning medical terminology such as on-line games, workbook exercises, quizzes and on-line testing applications.
Medical Coding for Billing
60 hours
Introduction to Coding provides students with a basic understanding of ICD-9 and CPT coding in the health care field. This training in coding is focused for the billing purposes. Students will learn to identify CPT and ICD-9 codes for submitting claims. Students will also gain a much broader perspective of the procedural and diagnosis codes in medical reimbursement.
Computers in Medical Office

The student will gain a basic level understanding of billing and registration practices and procedures used in a medical office the registration, check-in, check-out and billing of the patient.
Patient Billing
Instructor-led/Computer Lab
110 hours
The student will gain a solid understanding of the medical billing and health care claims submission and process a patient from check-in to claims submission and payment processing.
Patient to Payment
Instructor-led/Computer Lab
73 hours
The student will gain an advanced level of understanding of medical insurance billing and patient account management. Students will be registering patients, processing claims, posting charges and receivables, handling appeals and denials by this stage in the 12-week program.
Medical Ethics
Instructor-led
2 hour workshop
The student will learn and gain a basic understanding of the key ethical concepts in the medical office, professional morality, critical skills for communicating to patients, patients' families, colleagues and communicating about patients and patients’ family.
